Molybdenum trisulfide Molybdenum trisulfide uses and synthesis methods
physical and chemical properties
Molybdenum trisulfide is a chemical compound with the formula MoS3.It is a brownish-black flaky solid or powder that is unstable. When heated in a vacuum, it decomposes into MoS2 and S. It is almost insoluble in cold water, but soluble in hot water, and easily soluble in sodium sulfide or ammonium sulfide solutions, forming a brownish-red thiomolybdate salt.Adding hydrochloric acid to an ammonium thiomolybdate solution or passing H2S into a slightly acidic molybdate solution results in the precipitation of MoS3.In analytical chemistry, this precipitation reaction is used to determine the presence of molybdenum.
Prepare it
First, add 37g of sodium sulfide to an aqueous solution of sodium molybdate (3g of molybdenum trioxide dissolved in 1.6g of caustic soda) to obtain sodium molybdate sulfide.  Cool to 15℃, add 60mL of ethanol (with a mass concentration of 95%), stir and add 55mL of sulfuric acid (with a mass concentration of 4%), keep the temperature above 15℃, form a precipitate, filter and wash until sulfate ions are not present. After washing, add 20mL of ethanol, dry in the air, and finally obtain 3.7g of molybdenum trisulfide with a particle size of 1-2μm.
Application of
Molybdenum trisulfide can be used as an amorphous phase cathode material for the preparation of lithium-sulfur batteries;wear-resistant PA66 composite materials;inorganic fullerene molybdenum disulfide;high wear-resistant motor PTFE gaskets, etc.
